If you haven't been credit card shopping recently, you'd be amazed at the variety offered today. In addition to the different interest rates, the extent of rewards or perks offered is vast. There are cards offered to fit everyone's needs. Good credit, bad credit, in between, 0% APR introductory offers, sky miles, cash back,... just to name a few.

Of course the financial experts would tell you to watch that credit card debt, pay off the balance every month so you don't have to pay interest. If you do have high balances the experts would also tell you to take out a loan on your home so you could get a lower interest rate and tax advantage too. But that's not always realistic or possible for some. Perhaps they just bought their first home and the equity is limited. There could be a number of reasons why the professional financial advice just won't work. So what to do?

What if you just purchased your first home and your credit cards had balances with interest being accrued each month? Then say you like to travel, but you have these bills. Could you plan a trip in the not too distant future? I believe you could.

Most of the credit card companies today have 0% APR introductory offers. This rate is good for six to twelve months and many times is valid for balance transfers and purchases. In addition, many offer rewards such as air miles.

First figure out the most you could pay each month on these accounts combined. Apply for a card that offers 0% APR for twelve months and transfer the balances that are accruing interest to this new account. Now remember, you're saving interest each month. Then you could use the credit card as much as possible for daily expenses, keeping track of and setting that amount aside each day. At the end of the month, you should pay the amount determined which you could afford on the balance transferred and then pay the entire amount charged for the monthly expenses.

By doing this, you would be paying off the older balance with a 0% interest rate and earning rewards at the same time. At the end of the twelve months you may very well have enough points to take that planned trip. Your credit card balance should be paid off almost completely.

When things seem out of reach, you can achieve them, as long as you have a plan.

There are of course many reasons for owners to want a calm, obedient and faithful dog. For one thing, obedient and trained dogs are happier dogs, less likely to get into tussles with people or with other dogs. Another reason is that many communities require that the dogs living in their neighborhoods be well trained. This is especially true for many breeds thought to have aggression and behavior problems – dog breeds like pit bulls and rottweilers for instance.

And of course, training your dog well will also make he or she a much better family companion, especially in households where there are young children. Many studies have shown that proper dog training makes a big impact when it comes to cutting down the number of dog bits and other behavior problems encountered by dog owning households.

When considering training your own dog, or having someone else help you train it, there are certain basic commands that must be mastered in order for a dog to be considered truly trained. These basic commands include:

Heel – it is important that any dog learn to walk beside its owner on a loose lead, neither pulling ahead nor lagging behind

Respond to the word No – the word no is one word that all dogs must learn. Training your dog to respond to this important word can save you a ton of trouble.

Sit – Training your dog to sit on command is a vital part of any dog training program.

Stay – A well trained dog should remain where his or her owner commands, so stay is a very important command in dog training.

Down – Lying down on command is more than just a cute trick; it is a key component of any successful dog training program.

Dog training does much more than just create an obedient, willing companion. Training your dog properly actually strengthens the bond that already exists between dog and handler. Dogs are pack animals, and they look to their pack leader to tell them what to do. The key to successful dog training is to set yourself up as that pack leader.

Establishing yourself as pack leader is a very important concept for any potential dog trainer to understand. There is only one leader in every pack of dogs, and the owner must establish him or herself as the dominant animal. Failure to do so leads to all manner of behavior problems.

A properly trained dog will respond properly to all the owner’s commands, and will not display anxiety, displeasure or confusion. A good dog training program will focus on allowing the dog to learn just what is expected of it, and will use positive reinforcement to reward desired behaviors.

In addition to making the dog a good member of the community, obedience training is a great way to fulfill some of the dog’s own needs, including the need for exercise, the security that comes with knowing what is expected of it, a feeling of accomplishment and a good working relationship with its handler. Dog training gives the dog an important job to do, and an important goal to reach.

Giving the dog a job is more important than you may think. Dogs were originally bred by humans to do important work, such as herding sheep, guarding property and protecting people. Many dogs today have no important job to do, and this can often lead to boredom and neurotic behavior.

Basic obedience training, and ongoing training sessions, provide the dog with an important job to do. This is especially important for high energy breeds like German shepherds and border collies. Training sessions are a great way for these high energy dogs to use up their extra energy and simply to enjoy themselves.

Affidavits are also affirmations

The affidavit is a written version of sworn statement: a voluntary oath before a notary public, judge or commissioner of deed, all of whom are authorized to administer oaths. Both the affiant and the authorized officer are required to sign the affidavit.

The affidavit is also a useful tool in rectifying inadvertently wrongful data.

A simple example of an affidavit is the “Affidavit of Two Disinterested Persons” purposely to facilitate the correction of another person’s name. These two (2) particular disinterested persons issuing the affidavit are usually older close acquaintances of the other person’s family. The affidavit they swear to will explicitly state that they both know that the person seeking the correction of name is one and the same as that person they know since childhood years, etc. etc.

The notarized affidavit then becomes a very important supporting document; usually as attachment to the correction of name or some other form, commonly used by government or private agencies expressly for the purpose of rectifying erroneous entry of persons’ names.

On the other hand, affidavits are collected and used in the preparation of lawsuits. Preliminary legal proceedings necessitate that affidavits are completed before the filing of a legal action between two parties in a court of law.

A falsely prepared affidavit will result to perjury, which is a criminal offense and is punishable in court. Severe punishment awaits those who dare tamper with facts and figures.

Filing of affidavit should be factual and truthful. People, places and circumstances or events should be accurate contents of an affidavit. The affidavit based on prefabrications is incriminating and will hold the affiant vulnerable to a counter lawsuit by the opposite party.

Affidavits should always be regarded with care and caution. A notarized affidavit is not something to brandish about or to be used as tool to destroy your enemy – perceived or otherwise.

The affidavit speaks for a person and of a person. Depending on the motives by which an affidavit is presented, affidavits can either be moral or immoral. Affidavits can be good or bad.

Affidavits, however legalese it can get, is also an affirmation of a person’s being. An affidavit can actually bares one’s soul for the world to know – better or worse.

The use and abuse of affidavits is common. Affidavits can make or break anyone. Affidavits can build or ruin an empire. Why? Affidavits spin off court litigations, small or great. Affidavit could be that minute cog of the big machine of justice or injustice. Take your pick!

If you are new to the world of loans, then all the jargon and terminology can seem very confusing. There are so many different terms to understand, and unless you know some of them you will not find the best loan deal to suit your needs. Advance

When you borrow money in the form of a loan, the money you receive is called an advance. The more money you want to borrow, then the bigger your loan advance. It is called an advance because you are getting the money in advance of paying for it.

APR

The APR, or Annual Percentage Rate, is the amount of interest you are charged on your loan amount. This amount is written as a percentage, and refers to the total you are charged each year. APR is one of the primary features for comparison between loans, as it is a standard measurement for all loans. The lower the APR, then the cheaper the loan interest will be.

Credit scoring

Credit scoring is a method that lenders use to determine your eligibility for a loan. They ask a series of questions about your earnings and financial situation. Each answer you give is scored, and the better your score then the more likely you are to be accepted for a loan. If you score badly then you might be declined for the loan you want.

Secured loan

A secured loan is a loan that is backed by some form of collateral. Collateral is basically a high-value item that you use to secure the loan, so that if you cannot make repayments the lender can use this item to get their money. For secured loans, the collateral tends to be your home or other property. Secured loans have lower interest rates than unsecured loans, but you risk losing your home if you do not keep up with the repayments.

Unsecured loan

An unsecured loan is the opposite of a secured loan, and requires no collateral. Instead of collateral, your credit rating and earnings are more fully taken into account. The risk to the lender is greater, so the interest rates tend to be higher. That being said, they are less of a risk to the borrower and they are usually quicker to get hold of than a secured loan.

Loan term

The loan term is the agreed time over which you will repay the loan. You will repay the loan monthly over this period until the loan and interest is fully paid back. Loan terms on personal loans usually range from about 1 to 10 years, with mortgage loan terms being longer at around 15 to 25 years. The longer the loan term, the less your monthly payments will be, but the more you will have to pay back in interest over the years.

Search engines have revolutionized the way we think, live and work. You type in any topic you want to research and these miraculous devices scan millions of web pages and bring back the most relevant ones for you to browse. These pages include research papers, product announcements or even press releases that contain your target keywords. The very efficiency of search engines have now become its Achilles heel and researchers are working hard towards revolutionizing search technology yet again.

The most common trend is towards personalizing search engines to suit the individual user. This means if an IT professional keys in the word ‘mouse’, the search engine will turn up relevant information related only to PC devices and not about the four-legged variety of mouse.

Another software agent called QueryTracker is being developed to look for information of recurring interest. It sits between the conventional search engine and the user and works by submitting the user’s query to the search engine automatically once a day. The new search results that are generated are from new Web pages. Over time, it tracks the users priorities and interests and sends the search results to the user after filtering it for relevance.

Nowadays credit cards have become an integral feature of daily life. You may go anywhere -- a bookshop, a restaurant, a travel agent -- but the same question shall arise: "Payment by cash or card?" Most people today have a credit card or two occupying pride of place in their wallets. The sheer convenience that a credit card supplies cannot be undervalued. The development of this little piece of plastic has done away with the need to carry along huge bundles of cash. And the retailer is also more willing to accept payment by credit card than by check. After all, if the check does bounce, the retailer will have to go through the rigmarole of scouting out the person who bought the goods. In the case of a credit card, he knows he will be paid.

Yet, even today there are large numbers of people who do not trust themselves with credit cards. This may be a hangover from the old days where we were advised not buy things on credit. But credit cards are here to stay, and it is high time that we accepted this as fact. In fact, with credit card providers releasing credit cards at the drop of a hat, it is just a question of time before credit cards become the preferred mode of payment. For the time being, cash is the preferred mode of currency. But I doubt if the day is far away when the position of supremacy held by cash shall be usurped by plastic money.

Why should you avail of a credit card? There are many advantages. For one, nothing beats the convenience of carrying that small square piece of plastic. It does not weigh you down unlike equivalent bundles of money. Then again, making purchases becomes so much easier. You do not have to rush to the nearest ATM to withdraw cash if you are carrying a credit card. Moreover, you also do not have to worry about your wallet full of cash being pinched while you are commuting. The cash in your wallet will probably never return, but you can stop payment on your cards in such a case.

If none of this seems to be adequate reason to avail of a credit card, just take a look at the range of reward credit cards available in the credit card markets. Credit card companies have started making offers to those who make limited use of their credit cards. Reward credit cards are designed to encourage a person to make more credit card payments. Done prudently, this not only raises your credit score, but it also allows you to avail of the many incentives that the card provides. The two main types of reward credit card are cash back credit cards and reward credit cards. Cash back credit cards motivates the card holder to spend more so that he can get back cash rewards. The travel reward cards provide points that may translate into free airline tickets.

The great thing is that such deals are available readily. Plus, they have begun to win the trust of anti-credit-card folks as well.

A potential cause and solution to depression

I have recently made a very startling discovery which has helped me to stop spiralling into bouts of depression. In this article, I write about this discovery which I hope will help other people to lead much happier lives, free from anxiety and stress.

I am the type of person who can easily let things get on top of me. If I am rushed about here there and everywhere by my family or friends, I am often left feeling very drained and exhausted. I am sure this is the same for many people but the way it affects me over the next twenty-four hours is somewhat different. I seem to lose all of my energy and this then can easily lead me into thinking in a very negative way, often ending with me becoming quite depressed.

For whatever reason this depression can stay and in a way haunt my life for quite a few days. I begin to worry about the future, start to think that I am a failure, start to become paranoid about what other people think of me and basically become scared to leave my own house.

I have spoken to my family and especially my parents about this issue. They have advised me to seek help from a doctor. I must say that even though this would be good advice for most people, I feel that I am the kind of person who could become easily hooked and dependant on any tablets that would be described. I certainly do not want an addiction to add to my problems.

Possible solution to my depression

A few weeks ago I was watching a television program which has since had a massive impact on my life. It was an army type program and it talked about how one particular group of soldiers had all seemingly become ill and could not even complete the most routine of tasks.

A doctor or some other type of medical person was called to their camp to investigate what was wrong. The initial belief was that it was likely to be some form of food poisoning.

The doctor actually stated that the men had salt deprivation and called for for a large amount of salt tablets to be bought to the camp.

I thought about this and wondered if this could be the cause of my own issues.

The next time I felt I was becoming down or when I was over tired, I ate food products which contained a lot of salt and I am very happy to report that I quickly regained my energy and confidence levels. Such a simple solution to what was once such a huge problem for me.

With verifiable results there will be no need to be humble about your green contributions.

• You can enhance your image and reputation by taking a leadership position on this issue. Perhaps you could rank your suppliers based on their eco-sense, or use more green products. Use your Accounts Payable systems to give your vendors a “green” rating and then track purchases according to this rating to later report results. This can give your company a competitive advantage, and make it stand out for all the right reasons.

• This is an ideal opportunity to get your employees involved. Going green is a grass roots operation, so turn to your employees for ideas and suggestions on how to run the business in a more eco-friendly way. In addition to giving them a sense of ownership, it will increase their pride in the company they work for. Not only might you be amazed at the quality of the suggestions, but you will probably get a lot more cooperation in making the necessary changes. Make sure you set up automated systems to allow tracking of suggestions, participation in cost-saving programs, etc. Many human resources packages can track an employee’s input, which can then be used in evaluations or as a basis of additional monetary compensation or non-monetary perks.

We may have new jargon to describe the problem thirty years from now, but chances are we’ll still be grappling with the issue. Certainly for the time being, going green is not going away. It might make sense to use all the tools in our toolbox to tackle this one now.
