Most hobbies have associated clubs where you can meet other people interested in the same things, and learn more about the hobby. Model railroading is no different. There are hundreds of clubs around the world where model train enthusiasts meet to discuss the hobby and learn from one another.

Many of the clubs specialize in various things, as well. Some focus on certain scales while others focus on prototyping real life railroads with their layouts. Regardless of their focus, however, they all have one thing in common - their love for the hobby, and the desire to share it and improve it.

Whether you're just starting out with model railroading or you've been around the hobby for many years, you'll learn a lot by joining a club. And if you've got some experience under your belt, they would likely learn a lot from you as well.

Many clubs offer different things on different meeting nights as well, so it may be helpful to see if they have a calendar of upcoming meetings or a website where you can see what they are planning.

Many clubs set up displays at county fairs and other exhibitions, so if you're interested in learning more, check with your local club to see if they're going to be doing a demonstration soon. You'll be able to talk to some of the members in person, and you'll most likely be hooked by the quality of their demonstration layout!

The French possession of Guadeloupe conjures up images of endless sunshine beating down on perfect white sandy beaches and deep blue Carribean seas. It’s heady. It’s fun. It can be addictive. We’re talking about ATV driving. The thrill of driving through rugged, off-the-road terrain is something that most ATV lovers find irresistible. Way out, where there is hardly another human being in sight, away from the madding crowds is where the ATV trails are. True, ATVs are also used as utility vehicles on farms where they are used more as tools in agriculture and farming than for fun. But what a lot of ATV users who are into it for sport probably don’t know is how bad ATVs can be as far as nature goes. What the environmentalists say should be taken seriously.

ATV trails when used excessively can do a lot of ecological harm. How does this happen, especially when you take your sport to the back of beyond areas? It’s the deep threads in the ATV tires that do the damage. While they are great for driving around on rough terrain, they dig deep channels in the unpaved trails, which could drain swampy areas and therefore cause more sedimentation of water bodies. So ATV lovers got together and formed groups to try and sort out this problem. There were special areas which they purchased and reserved only for ATV driving.

They also decided to educate ATV drivers about how be responsible and respect the environment. One of the forerunners in this effort was Tread Lightly!, a non-profit organization which is dedicated to educating people how to treat nature responsibly. It was born in 1985 when a program was launched by the US Forest Service to address the problem of recreation visitors to the forests growing to unmanageable numbers. This became private in 1990 and Tread Lightly! came into being as a non profit organization.

For ATV drivers, Tread Lightly! has a brochure with guidelines under ‘Travel and recreate with minimum impact’. Let’s take a quick look at them. The first one, of course, is to stay within the areas open only for ATV use. There are designated trails today and you can find out where they are and have the time of your life there. Remember that when there are slick ATV trails, use the clutch so you get the maximum traction with the least amount of tailspin and moderate your throttle. Don’t roost around the apex of a turn when on switchbacks. This should be kept in mind when you are brake-sliding while descending or climbing as both actions can gouge ATV trails. Streams should be crossed only where ATV trails cross the streams or at the designated fording points. Try not to drive in marshy areas or in meadows.

Keep your equipment in good shape and when winching, find a secure anchor, find the right winch for the right need and don’t winch with anything less than five wraps of wire rope wound around the drum. If you are using a tree as an anchor, avoid damaging the tree by wrapping a wide tree strap around it. Also try not to make too much of a noise and disrupting the silence of nature around you. Use regular camping sites and make sure you camp at least 200 feet away from water bodies and trails. Dispose of waste properly by burying it six to eight feet deep and use fire only when necessary.

They have some more guidelines and they are listed under the heading ‘Respect the environment and the rights of others’. Here, you are asked to be considerate of everyone else on the trail or the road and to ride only where you are allowed to. You should respect private land and leave the gates as you found them. Respect the right of way when someone passes you or is traveling uphill and give way to hikers, horses and mountain bikers. Don’t kick up a dust – literally – and keep the decibel level down. And pack out whatever you pack in.

There are still more guidelines that come under ‘Educate yourself by planning before you go’. It tells you to get yourself a map before you venture out and determine where the ATV trails are. It is always safe to tell someone about your travel plans and to stick to the plans you make. Make it a point to get in touch with the land manager and ask about closures, area restrictions and permit requirements. Always ask for permission before you cross private land. Keep an eye on the weather and keep a few emergency items with you in case of emergencies. Try not to go solo but get together two or three to travel with. Wear protection – a helmet, eye and other safety gear. In case you do separate, arrange meeting points in advance. Keep a sharp eye on your fuel, your time and your own ability. Don’t drink or do drugs and drive. Be always in control of the vehicle and make sure it is in top condition. Keep tools and supplies in case you need them

ATV Trails can be great fun if you take a few precautions. Respect the trail and the you’ll find you have a blast in return.

Striving to be the best running back ever

There are many National Football League players who play the position of running back quite well, but in my opinion, the best running back there is in the NFL is Jim Brown. Jim Brown played for the Cleveland Browns from 1957 to 1965. He was an extremely powerful runner, and he also had great speed and agility, which enabled him to break away from the pack effortlessly, while being tackled. Due to his great accomplishments in the NFL, in 1971 Jim Brown was inducted into the pro football hall of fame.

Despite the fact that I feel Jim Brown is the best running back so far, there is an emerging running back who may just give him a run for the title of the best of all time. This great new NFL running back is L. T, better known as LaDainian Tomlinson, who currently plays for the San Diego Chargers. He is proving to be a promising young, new player, yet before he actually gets to be named the best of all time, he will have to surpass players like Walter Payton and Emmitt Smith. These two players were two of the best running backs that have ever played in pro football. Walter was a runner who ran with a great deal of finesse, and the speed of a cheetah. When he broke loose from the pack, he was gone, and no other player could ever catch him.

Emmitt Smith was more of a powerful runner, and he had speed as well. L. T. is proving to everyone that he, too, possesses these talents. Ladainian Tomlinson is well on his way, but he still has a long way to go to play like Jim Brown, Emmitt Smith, or even Walter Payton. It takes lots of training and experience to be a running back, much less, the greatest of all time.

Running backs must train on a regular basis to keep their bodies in shape, on and off season. If they lay around, drinking beer and loading up on junk food while football season is over, then there is no way that they would be able to get back into shape in time for the season to begin. These specialized players must be very dedicated and disciplined, taking the time to eat the proper foods, get a sufficient amount of rest, as well as workout at least once a day.

The top ten bowling techniques to improve your score

Bowling is one of the best ways to improve fitness and coordination while having fun with your family and friends. It’s a lot more than simply throwing a heavy ball down a long corridor…it’s one of the most complicated and competitive sports around. By learning to master the top-ten techniques of bowling, you’ll gain confidence, have more fun, and beat the competition!

The top 10 bowling techniques:

1. Have perfect Posture

In bowling, posture counts! Keep your head up, looking straight at your target. Your shoulders should remain square to the foul line, especially through the swing.

2. Grip the ball properly

If you use a house ball, make sure the thumbhole is loose fitting. The thumb frequently swells a little during bowling and if you’re forcing your fingers into the holes before you bowl, they’re likely to get stuck! If you have your own ball, have your pro shop custom drill your finger holes. If your thumb routinely swells, wrapping it in bowler’s tape can help. If your hands sweat, be sure to carry a towel to wipe them on and then dust your hands with a little rosin. If you have a hard time gripping the ball, your pro shop can insert grips into the finger holes.

3. Remember where you are

If you’re right handed, a good place to start is 2 arrows right of the middle. If you’re left handed, start 2 arrows to the left of center. Adjust your position right or left after you have bowled a couple of balls, depending on where your ball ended up.

4. Focus on your target

Decide where you’re going to aim. If it’s your first ball, aim to bowl just to the right of the 1 (front) pin if you’re right handed or to the left of it if you’re left handed.

5. Breathe

Relax yourself by taking three slow, deep breaths. It’s common to feel anxious before bowling… but the calmer you are, the more control you will have over your ball.

6. Smooth moves

The way you carry yourself to bowl decides the speed and power of your ball. Position yourself so you will take four consistently paced steps to throw the ball.

7. Slow down!

One of the most common traits beginning bowlers have in common is to rush. It’s important to have some speed to deliver the ball correctly, but too much speed is the #1 reason for both gutter balls and 7-10 splits in beginning bowlers!

8. Maintain your balance

Be sure to stay upright and focused on your target as you approach the foul line. Keep your shoulders square as you use your leg as a counterweight to keep your balance during the release.

9. Release the ball

Keeping your arm slightly bent at the elbow, retract your arm behind your body, cradling the ball in your hand. Keep a smooth straight arc from back to front. Be careful of arcing around your body and back…that’s a common habit in many new bowlers! At the low point of your swing, release the ball. A relaxed arm and wrist make for an effective shot!

10. Follow through

Keep your target in sight and your arm continuing its arc forward even after the ball has been released. Just “letting the ball go” and pulling your arm back will cause the ball to roll off-course.

The most important thing to remember when learning to bowl is to have FUN! By learning proper bowling techniques you will make the game much more enjoyable for yourself and for those who bowl with you.

Ben roethlisberger 2004 draft day picks

Born on March 2, 1982 in Findlay, Ohio, Ben Roethlisberger is one of the best young quarterbacks in the world. This is saying a lot for a guy that did not receive nearly as much attention as other players of his caliber during high school and college. Despite being overlooked for much of his career, Roethlisberger has proven to be one of the best of the best thanks to his love of the game, athletic body, and strong arm.

After playing high school football in Ohio, Roethlisberger took his game to Miami University located in Oxford, Ohio. During his time at Miami he took the college football world by storm. Although he did not play in a top level conference, Roethlisberger still managed to garner the attention of NFL scouts. This was due in large part to the fact that he passed for 84 touchdowns in college; a Miami University school record.

Roethlisberger was chosen by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 11th overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. In August of the same year he signed a six year contract with the team worth a little more than $22 million.

During Roethlisberger’s first season he was thrust into action due to an injury to starting quarterback Tommy Maddox. In what was one of the best rookie performances of all time, Roethlisberger went on to win all 14 of the regular season games that he started. This led to his selection as the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

With everybody wondering how Roethlisberger would fair the next season, he once again put up big numbers. While the team did not win nearly as many regular season games, Roethlisberger did lead them to the Super Bowl where they would eventually beat the NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks.

Although Ben Roethlisberger had a down year in 2006, he is poised to come back better than ever.

Must learn skateboard tricks

Some of the most exciting things to watch in a sporting event are the tricks that professional skateboarders do. While not everyone can be at that advanced level, there are many tricks the amateur intermediate and advanced skateboarders can learn that will, if nothing else, it impresses their friends. Perhaps they can continue on to learn more and become professional or semi-pro and compete for prizes and money. Learning the tricks can be fun but it is especially important to know and understand that trick riding can be very dangerous and is highly prone to injury. More people get hurt in skateboarding accidents when attempting tricks than with any other form of skateboarding.

There are several forms of tricks that can be learned. Some of them are harder than others so it is best to start off with the easy ones before advancing to the more complicated ones. This also gives the persona sense of accomplishment and will give them confidence to be able to attempt the harder tricks. One of the easiest tricks to learn is a simple jump. This is simply a position change on the board that requires some dexterity and balance. While skating, jump and make a half turn so that you are now faced the other direction on the board. Once this is mastered, you can try for a complete turn.

Another easy trick to learn is how to walk the skateboard. This is done by zig zagging the back and front wheels so the top wheels pop up and are placed at a forty five degree angle when landing. Then the back wheels are popped up to meet the front. The skateboard continues to walk continuously. This is a flashy maneuver that is easy to accomplish and not terribly dangerous. It takes a little practice and balance, though, to make it look smooth.

A full turn is a bit more difficult but with some practice and a good balance it can be accomplished without too much trouble. The front wheels are popped up while pivoting a half turn on the back wheels before the front wheels land. This can be advanced to a complete turn once this is mastered. After some basic turns and holds are learned, the skater can start doing some of the more advanced tricks that involve ramps and rails. These tricks are much more dangerous are done at a faster pace so it is important to be confident in the skateboarding basics before attempting.

Renowned diamonds

Among the most famous of all large diamonds is the Hope Diamond. Currently on display at the Smithsonian, this steel blue diamond weighs in at a hefty 45.52-carats. There are many legends detailing the curse of ill fortune allegedly bestowed on the possessor of the Hope Diamond, perhaps contributing to the decision to donate this diamond to the Smithsonian in 1958. Originally the Hope was a rather flat, blocky 110-carat rough.

As the largest green diamond in the world the Dresden Green stands out among the natural colored diamonds, weighing 40.70-carats. This diamond is essentially priceless due to its size, historic nature, and natural green color with a slight blue overtone.

Once owned by Louis XIII, the Conde Pink is a pear shaped pink diamond and weighs 9.01-carats.

Discovered in either 1877 or 1878 in South Africa, the Tiffany Yellow diamond was a stunning canary-yellow octahedron weighing 287.42 in rough (metric) carats. After cutting the gem was pared down to an extraordinary weight of 128.54-carats and was, until recently, the largest golden-yellow in the world.

Now among the British Crown Jewels is the 105.60-carat Koh-I-Noor (Mountain of Light). This diamond is believed to have once been set in Shah Jehan's famous peacock throne as one of the peacocks' eyes and was first mentioned in 1304.

Weighing a respectable 32.34-carats, the Agra is graded as a naturally colored Fancy Light Pink. In 1989 it was sold for about 6.6 million dollars. It has since been modified to a cushion shape weighing about 28.15-carats.

The Transvaal Blue is a stunning pear cut. At 25-carats, this blue diamond was found in the Premier Diamond Mine in Transvaal, South Africa.

The Great Chrysanthemum was discovered in a South African diamond field, in the summer of 1963. This fancy brown diamond appeared to be a light honey color in its rough state at 198.28-carats. After cutting, however, it was found to be a rich golden brown, with overtones of sienna and burnt orange and weighed in at 104.15-carats.

Cartier of New York purchased the pear-shaped 69.42-carat Taylor-Burton Diamond at an auction in 1969 and christened it "Cartier." Richard Burton purchased it the next day for Elizabeth Taylor. He then renamed it the "Taylor-Burton". Elizabeth Taylor put the diamond up for sale in 1978, requiring prospective buyers to pay $2,500 each to view the diamond, in order to cover the costs of showing it. The diamond was finally sold in June of 1979 for nearly $3 million dollars.

If you’re not quite ready for that kind of park yet, they also have a terrain park built specifically for beginners to learn their moves. And if you get bored of the mountains at Breckenridge, you can catch a free shuttle over to neighboring Keystone for some night skiing and snowboarding (and the tickets are interchangeable). If this isn’t enough for you, the town has a great atmosphere as well. The resort area is the largest historic district in the state of Colorado. It boasts tons of shops, a variety of great restaurants, oxygen bars, and you can take free shuttles from town to each peak. If you’re into the night-life, Breckenridge has several clubs and bars to suit all the late-night partiers. If you’re with people who are into something besides going down the mountain, there is also snowmobiling, ice skating, dog sled tours, hiking trails, and a whole lot more. If you’re looking for a great all-around resort, Breckenridge is the place to go.

If you’re just learning to snowboard, Vail is a great resort to check out. Besides the fact that Vail is widely considered to be the best ski resort in the US (and the biggest), it’s also got great accommodations for those who are just starting out; including a school with over 800 instructors (including those fluent in different languages) and tons of beginner runs. The sacramento kings - a history

The Sacramento Kings are a professional basketball team which is based in Sacramento, California. They play in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The franchise that would become the Sacramento Kings initially played in Rochester, New York, as the Rochester Royals of the National Basketball League. Success was almost immediate: founded in 1945, the team won the NBL championship in 1946. In 1948, the Royals moved to the Basketball Association of America, which absorbed the NBL the following year to become the National Basketball Association. The Royals won the NBA title in 1951, which remains the only championship in the team's history. Top players in this era included Arnie Risen and Bob Davies, both Hall of Famers.

In 1957, the Royals moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. The team landed two top stars in Maurice Stokes and Jack Twymann. Stokes' promising career ended tragically due to a brain injury that resulted from a fall during a game. Twyman was the first Royal to average 30 points per game for a season. Both are Hall of Famers. The team's star players throughout the 1960s were Oscar Robertson and Jerry Lucas. Robertson met with individual success, averaging a triple-double in 1961-62 and winning the Most Valuable Player award in 1964.

Robertson was a league-leading scorer and passer each season. Lucas was Rookie Of the Year in 1964, led the league in shooting, and later averaged 20 rebounds per game over three seasons. Both were All-NBA First Team selections multiple times. The Royals were an also-ran throughout the era anyway. The team failed to keep promising players and played in the tough NBA East division, dominated by the Boston Celtics, even as a Baltimore team played in the West Division for three years, denying the team likely visits to the NBA Finals. New coach Bob Cousy, a loyal Boston Celtic, traded Lucas in 1969. Robertson was traded in 1970, and the declining team left Cincinnati shortly thereafter, moving to Kansas City, Missouri. Renamed the Kings (because of the Kansas City Royals baseball team in the same community), the team initially divided its home games between Kansas City and Omaha. The team netted a new superstar in Nate Archibald, who led the league in scoring and assists. But the Kings were no more successful in their new time zone than the Royals had been.

In the 1980-81 season, the Kings made a surprise run in the NBA Playoffs, reaching the Western Conference Finals despite finishing the season with a losing record. But this moment of success was little more than a blip.

The Kings moved west to their current home of Sacramento, California, in 1985-86. Much of their early tenure in Sacramento was spent in the NBA's cellar, and the team made the playoffs only once between 1985 and 1995 (and even then had a losing record). Some of their failure to succeed was attributed to poor luck, such as the virtually career-ending car crash suffered by promising point guard Bobby Hurley, and some was attributed to poor management such as the too-long tenure of head coach Garry St. Jean and the selection of "Never Nervous Pervis" Ellison with the first overall pick in the 1989 NBA Draft.

The early 1990s were not kind to the Kings. Sacramento was known for having strong fan support, but it never had a good team, and its owner, John Thomas, rarely paid for top talent. The Kings squeaked in to the playoffs in 1996 largely due to the effort of star player Mitch Richmond, but they did not distinguish themselves in the postseason. Eventually the team was sold to the Maloof Family, who finally changed the direction of the team.

The Kings emerged from years of mediocrity with the draft selection of Jason Williams, the signing of Vlade Divac, and the trade of Mitch Richmond for Chris Webber prior to the lockout-shortened 1998-99 season. These acquisitions coincided with the arrival of Peja Stojakovic, who had been drafted in 1996. Each of these moves was attributed to general manager Geoff Petrie, who has won NBA Executive of the Year several times.

Following these acquisitions, the Kings rose in the NBA ranks, becoming a perennial playoff contender, as well as one of the most exciting teams in the NBA. [citation needed] Led by new head coach Rick Adelman, and aided by former Princeton head coach and Kings assistant Pete Carril, their so-called "Princeton offense" turned heads around the league for its run-and-gun style and superb ball movement. The Kings led the league in average points per game year in and year out, and established that a team could be successful and still be fun to watch. [citation needed] Some criticized the Kings for their poor team defense, Williams's "flash over substance" style of play with its many turnovers, and Webber's failure to step up his game in important matchups. Still, they quickly became NBA darlings, garnering many fans outside of California, and even around the world, many of which were enthralled by Williams's amazing passing abilities and Webber's sharp all-around game. Despite their tremendous successes, they were still a young team, and were ultimately defeated by more experienced teams in the playoffs, losing to the Utah Jazz in 1999 (in a thrilling five-game matchup), and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2000.

Following the 2000 season, the Kings traded starting small forward Corliss Williamson to the Toronto Raptors for defensive shooting guard Doug Christie, opening a starting spot for sharpshooter Stojakovic. Stojakovic and his dead-eye long range shot served as the perfect complement to Webber's smooth inside game, taking the Kings' already-potent offense to new heights. With their continued success on court came their continued rise in popularity, culminating in their gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated in February 2001, with the title "The Greatest Show On Court". In 2001, they won their first playoff series in the Webber era, defeating the Phoenix Suns 3-1, before being swept in four games by the Lakers, who went on to win the NBA championship.

In July 2001, Petrie traded starting point guard Jason Williams to the Vancouver/Memphis Grizzlies for point guard Mike Bibby. The trade solved needs on both sides: the Grizzlies, in the process of moving to Memphis, wanted an exciting, popular player to sell tickets in their new home, while the Kings, an up-and-coming team, sought more stability and control at the point guard position. Although questioned by some Kings fans at the time, NBA officials and experts proclaimed Bibby as the better (if less exciting) player in the deal, as well as a better leader, having led the Arizona Wildcats to an NCAA championship in 1997. This move was complemented by the crucial re-signing of Webber to a maximum-salary contract, securing the star power forward for years to come.

With the addition of Bibby, the Kings had their best season to date in 2001-02. The team finished with a league best 61-21 record and stormed through the first two rounds of the playoffs. The Kings eventually lost to the rival Lakers in the conference finals, falling in overtime of Game 7 at home in Arco Arena. Despite questionable calls by officials during Game 6, the series is widely considered to be one of the best playoff series in NBA history.

After winning another division championship in 2002-03, the Kings lost Webber to a knee injury in the playoffs, ultimately losing to the Dallas Mavericks in a seven game series. Webber's knee required major surgery, and his questionable mid-season return in 2003-04, in which he visibly lost much of his explosiveness and agility, led to a playoff defeat at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves in seven games.

The 2004-05 season marked another season of dramatic change for the Kings, who lost three of their starters from the 2002 team. In the offseason of 2004, Divac opted to sign with the rival Lakers, giving Miller a starting spot at center. Early in the season, Christie was traded to the Orlando Magic for shooting guard Cuttino Mobley. But the most dramatic change came in February, when Webber was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers for three relatively unheralded forwards: Corliss Williamson, Kenny Thomas, and Brian Skinner.

The Kings ultimately lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Seattle Supersonics. The 2005 offseason continued the team transformation, with the Kings trading fan favorite Bobby Jackson for Bonzi Wells and acquiring free agent forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim.

The 2005-06 season started off poorly, as the Kings had a hard time finding chemistry in the team. Popular SF Peja Stojakovic was traded for the controversial Ron Artest, who all but guaranteed the Kings would make the playoffs. Artest's prediction came true, as the Kings returned to their winning ways, earning an 8-seed before losing to the San Antonio Spurs in the 2006 playoffs, 4 games to 2.

The 2006 offseason was started with the announcement that head coach Rick Adelman's contract would not be renewed. On June 2, 2006, the Kings named Eric Musselman as Adelman's replacement as head coach.
